PushToSky AstroStacker for Linux
PushToSky AstroStacker is a Linux astrophotography image stacking application designed for astronomical cameras and telescope users. It can capture camera frames, align astronomical images and combine multiple exposures into a final stacked image.
The application is designed for users who want a simple, low-cost solution for astronomical image stacking while working with an alt-azimuth telescope setup.

AstroStacker can process a sequence of astronomical camera frames and align them before stacking. Image alignment uses feature detection and matching to compensate for movement between individual frames.
This makes the software suitable for experimenting with deep-sky astrophotography, planetary imaging and other telescope camera workflows where multiple frames are combined to create a final image.
Stacking Methods
PushToSky AstroStacker provides several image-combination methods:
- Average stacking – combines multiple frames by averaging them.
- Maximum stacking – selects the maximum pixel values and can be used for Lucky Imaging workflows.
- Median stacking – provides an alternative stacking method designed to reduce the memory requirements of processing.
Alt-Azimuth Telescope Tracking Correction
The application includes an optional alt-azimuth tracking correction mode. Users can select star or Moon tracking speed and specify whether the telescope is being used in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere.
This feature is intended for astronomical imaging setups where field rotation can affect a sequence of images taken with an alt-azimuth telescope.
Camera Capture and Live Preview
PushToSky AstroStacker includes a live camera preview, frame counter, FPS display and histogram. Camera controls include resolution selection, exposure, gain, brightness and white balance.
- Live astronomical camera preview
- Configurable camera resolution
- Manual or automatic exposure
- Gain control
- Brightness adjustment
- RGB white balance control
- Live histogram
- Frame capture limit
Image Export Formats
Stacked images can be exported in common image formats. Depending on the installed software components, the application supports:
- PNG
- TIFF
- FITS
FITS export is particularly useful for astronomy workflows that use scientific image-processing software.
Linux Astrophotography Software
PushToSky AstroStacker is part of the PushToSky astronomy software project. It is intended to provide accessible telescope and camera tools for amateur astronomers using Linux computers.
The AstroStacker application can be used together with astronomical cameras and telescope equipment as part of a wider astrophotography workflow.
PushToSky AstroStacker Beta
The Linux download is currently provided as a beta version. If you test the application, feedback about camera compatibility, image alignment, stacking performance and telescope tracking correction can help improve future versions.
